Jones is the former Middleweight, Super Middleweight, Light heavyweight and Heavyweight champion of the world and brings in astounding record of 53-5 with thirty-nine knockouts.
Jones defends his NABO light heavyweight title against Lacy in “Hook City,” presented by Square Ring Promotions in association with Left Hook Promotions.
“We are very excited to be promoting “Hook City” on August 15 in Biloxi to settle the question, once and for all, of who is the best professional hooker in the sport of boxing,” said John S. Wirt, CEO of Square Ring Promotions. “While Jeff claims to have the best left hook, come the morning of the 16th, I think he may well be in the market for a new ring name.”
The Hall of Fame bound-Jones, fighting out of his native Pensacola (FL), has been a world champion in four divisions – middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight – and currently ranks among the top seven light heavyweights in all four major boxing organizations (WBO #2) and The Ring magazine.
St. Petersburg (FL) power-punching Lacy, rated No. 6 by the IBF and No. 9 by the WBO, is moving up in weight to fight living legend Jones as a light heavyweight for the first time. Former IBF and IBO super middleweight title-holder Lacy is coming off of a win by 10-round decision against Otis Griffin this past April.
Two-time world champion Danny “Green Machine” Green (26-3, 23 KOs), the power-puncher from Down Under, dreams of fighting Jones later this year in Australia. His opponent in the 12-round IBO cruiserweight title fight is South American light heavyweight title-holder Julio Cesar “La Furia” Dominguez (20-4-1, 14 KOs), who has fought in relative obscurity in his native Argentina. All he’s been dreaming about is knocking out Green. Which one’s dream will come true? That, too, will be decided in “Hook City.”
NABO cruiserweight champion B.J. “El Peligroso” Flores (23-0-1, 14 KOs) has a display case filled with regional title belts. He’s rated as high as No. 3 by the WBO and No. 6 by the WBA and positioned for a major world title fight. Standing in his way in “Hook City” is former world title challenger Epifanio “Diamente” Mendoza (29-7-1, 25 KOs), the Colombian hit man who specializes in putting opponents to sleep, as well as knocking-off unbeaten contenders.
Two highly-regarded lightweight prospects — Verquan “The Show” Kimbrough (21-1-2, 7 KOs) and challenger Jason “American Boy” Litzau (24-2, 20 KOs) — go toe-to-toe in “Hook City” in a 10-round Special Attraction for the vacant NABF belt. Both have rich amateur pedigrees and Kimbrough is trying to get where Litzau has been and plans to return — a world title shot. All bouts are subject to change.

IS VITALI KLITSCHKO FORREST GRIFFIN’S TWIN?

I saw a photo recently of Heavyweight Boxer Vitali Klitschko attached to a story about his upcoming title fight with Chris Arreola. Immediately I had that familiar sense of recognition, and I knew I had a perfect opportunity to bring back an old segment here at Fight News Unlimited called “separated at birth.”
Vitali’s features look a lot like those of UFC Veteran Forrest Griffin. It’s almost as if Vitali is a version of Forrest on the same horse steroids that made Arnold Schwartzenegger so huge. You be the judge:

Penn and Sanchez: A Comparative Analysis

It seems his win over the former The Ultimate Fighter welterweight runner-up, Kenny Florian, has refocused B.J. Penn. He’ll need that, too, as his next challenger will be Diego “The Nightmare” Sanchez.
Penn and Sanchez are both notable for their eccentric behavior in and out of the octagon. “The Prodigy” grossed out the world of MMA when he licked the blood of Joe Stevenson off his gloves after beating “Daddy” to a gnarly pulp at UFC 80 before securing the win with a rear naked choke. Sanchez caught the attention of MMA fans even before he defeated Florian for the title of The Ultimate Fighter by his strange yoga, eating, and bathing practices.
A former King of the Cage welterweight champion, Sanchez came into the UFC with an unblemished professional record which extended into the world’s largest mixed martial arts promotion until UFC 69, in Houston, TX, where an undiagnosed staph infection may have contributed to the New Mexico native delivering a sluggish performance against the decision winner, Josh Koscheck. It was devastating for the über-focused born-again Christian, especially as his loss was followed up by another to Jon Fitch.
After only a five month break, however, Sanchez returned to his winning ways with defeats over top contenders such as Joe Stevenson and Clay Guida. His current professional record puts him at 23 wins and only two losses.
In contrast, Penn’s record only sits at 14 wins with five losses. On the surface, it appears Sanchez is more than overdue for a title shot until you look at the caliber of their respective matches.
Inside the UFC, alone, Penn has put away the likes of former welterweight champion Matt Hughes, former lightweight champion Jens Pulver, Joe Stevenson, Sean Sherk, and most recently, Kenny Florian. Outside the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the Hawaiian scored wins over Takanori Gomi, Matt Serra, and both Rodrigo and Renzo Gracie. He’s held the welterweight belt and currently holds the lightweight championship in the UFC.
A key difference between the two seems to be consistency. Penn has been accused in the past of losing heart and getting lazy. After being frustrated by a second loss to Georges St-Pierre, Penn even began launching defaming accusations against the welterweight champion for cheating.
Sanchez, on the other hand, has consistently trained hard for every fight, often sequestering himself from friends and family and any other outside distraction. Never has the quirky middleweight turned welterweight turned lightweight been accused of not having enough heart or not training hard enough.
Only two months out from his win over Guida, baby-faced, soft-spoken Sanchez has been given the nod to challenge B.J. Penn for the lightweight title. With accomplished wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Muay Thai skills, the former Greg Jackson protégé appears to be the only true threat to B.J.’s belt.
Since his losses to Koscheck and Fitch, Sanchez has worked with Joey Gilbert and Lupe Aquino to improve his stand up, adding a TKO victory over Luigi Fiorvanti to his stats. His game has also gotten smarter, evidenced by his decision win over Clay Guida. He dominated “The Carpenter” on the feet for the whole first round and effectively took narrow leads over the final two.
With the title challenge looming on the horizon, Diego Sanchez will have to be more concentrated than ever. An over-cautious approach to Penn will not work. Penn is reinvigorated, having changed his previously lazy training habits. Sanchez will need to focus his chi and honestly believe the title belongs to him if he ever hopes to take it.
More technical standing than Penn, he also has very respectable ground thanks to former coach, Jackson, current experts Xande and Saulo Ribeiro and wrestling coach Bob Anderson. Nevertheless, the former UPS employee must know that the current champion is cunning and freakishly limber with more than decent hands.
Of all the challengers who could have faced B.J. Penn for the title, following the dismantling of Kenny Florian, Diego Sanchez looks the most promising for a change in belt ownership to happen. His mission will not be an easy one but if anyone can “kill that master,” as Florian attempted, it might just be Sanchez.

SALEM, NJ (August 14, 2009)—Unfortunately Tonight’s six fight boxing show at the John Campbell Fitness Center has been postponed due to a bonding paperwork issue.
The card was set for tonight and the commission at yesterday’s weigh-in made no mention of the oversight. A solution was drawn up but the New Jersey Boxing Commission would not budge in their stance.
“I don’t understand this. We had all the paperwork that was asked of us and something came up at literally the last minute that had nothing to do with us,” said Lamarr Johnson of Dungeon Warrior Promotions.
“All Tickets will be honored as we are aggressively weighing all the options to re-schedule the show as quickly as possible.”
MaxFightsDM Ballroom Brawl Places Brian “SMOKIN” Green Back Inside the Cage and Will Place a Title Belt Around One Victorious Warrior

Des Moines, IA- August 14, 2009- MaxFightsDM released the fight line-up for its August 28, Ballroom Brawl event at the Val Air Ballroom today. The ten bout event is the first all professional MMA contest in Des Moines. The main features include a welterweight title match, a fight with U.S. Olympian wrestler, and two-time NCAA champion Ben Askren, and Brian Green’s first fight in nearly one year.
Green faces Omaha fighter Dustin Deprizio, a veteran of Victory Fighting Championship, as well as several other Midwest fight organizations. Green had been sidelined due to a serious shoulder injury that was repaired via arthroscopic surgery. Green has had to double the time he’s committed to preparing for this fight, given the physical therapy that is required in addition to his grueling training regimen. “I love everything related to this sport, including the officiating, judging, and promoting I’ve done during my recovery. But the truth for me is, standing on the sidelines has driven me crazy. More than anything, I belong in the cage. I could not be happier to be back” provided an elated Green.
National buzz has been building regarding Ben Askren’s bout with Matt Delanoit. While many are quite impressed with Askren’s collegiate and Olympic experience, Delanoit may seem the least impressed. Delanoit shows up to a fight with one mission, regardless of his opponent, and that is to win. Delanoit’s MMA experience and record has to be just as impressive to Askren, and those closely watching his developing MMA career. Mark Cuban’s HD-Net network will film highlights of all bouts, including Askren vs. Delanoit.
The evening’s action and entertainment begins promptly at 7:30 Pm with the Green vs. Deprizio bout, and concludes with Demi Deeds vs. Jason Gilliam for MaxFightsDM first ever title bout. Doors open to the public at 6:30 PM for the following line-up.

Women in Support Together Honors US Servicewomen at All Female Amateur Boxing Show

Washington, DC- Female Boxing Promoter, Wanda Bruce along with 8x World Champion Ann Wolfe and 4x World Champion Bonnie Canino will honor several brave servicewomen at the All Female Amateur Boxing Show on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Rosecroft Raceway.
