SHAMROCK SHOWDOWN
Friday, 18th March 2011
York Hall, Bethnal Green, London
For Immediate Release
London – Thursday, 17th March 2011
Weights and Quotes McDonagh-Hamilton Southern Area Light Welterweight Title
The weigh in for Peter McDonagh versus Darren Hamilton BBBofC Southern Area Light Welterweight Title, sponsored by Revolver Entertainment’s new to DVD action drama ‘Fists of Rage’ movie, was held earlier today at The Real Fight Club in Shoreditch, London.
McDonagh versus Hamilton will take place on Friday 18th March at Spencer Fearon’s Hard Knocks Boxing Promotions ‘Shamrock Showdown’ event at York hall, Bethnal Green, London.
WEIGHTS & QUOTES.
Peter McDonagh – 140 lbs
“It’s a good fight, he’s hungry, it’s his first chance at a title challenge.
He’s very respectful, I mean he said to me ‘thank’s for giving me the opportunity’ which is nice.
I’m going to take care of business tomorrow night and then move on and hopefully Spencer will get me the British title fight.”
Darren Hamilton – 139 lbs
“I can see it go one of two ways, because of the contrast of styles. It’ll either be a small hall classic or it could be a very boring fight.
It’s a very tactical fight, so sometimes it can be something that not everyone will want to see. Obviously it’s not going to be a tear up.
Peter McDonagh boxes two ways, he’s not going to know what to do with me as there’s no footage of me on YouTube. There’ll be a lot of standing off by him and I’ll do what I do best. Lots of tactics, lots of jabs, there’s not going to be any heavy trading early on I don’t think.
I’m going to do my own thing, fight my own fight. It might not be what the public want to see, they may want to see a tear up. As I say it could be one of two things it could be a boring tactical fight or a small hall classic”
Following the weigh in promoter Spencer Fearon spoke briefly, well sort of, on the top class event, “The shows called Shamrock Showdown for the simple fact that today is Saint Patrick’s Day, do you realise that actually St. Patrick was Welsh. We live in a multi-ethnic society and we’re uniting everybody with Hard Knocks everybody is welcome, so come down to York Hall and show your support for Peter McDonagh and Darren Hamilton as they fight for the Southern Area title. That’s a real good fight and I’m the promoter of the show.
You’ve also got Erick Ochieng, who’s ‘The Eagle’, so I’ve replaced one Eagle with another, ‘cos Kreshnik Qato is not on this show but will be on my next show in a couple of months time. So I’ve got a new Eagle, I’ve got a vicious dark skinned African terrorist – he scares me – he’s fighting a guy called Luke Robinson, who was an ABA titlist a few years ago. That’s a real good 50/50 fight.
I haven’t forgot Nathan Graham versus Adil Anwar, which is going to be a superb fight for the International Masters title. These are two guys with very similar records. Nathan is 11-1 and Adil is 10-1. Nobody wants to fight Adil Anwar, nobody wants to fight Nathan Graham, so you know what I said why don’t you fight each other. I mean I put the money up.
All the fights are like that. I stick to my ethos, my ethos is every fight could be a main event and that’s what I’m doing.
It’s not easy doing small hall shows when you have no TV. But everyone knows me, I’m a peoples person and will get everybody in. We’re going to have a rammed York Hall.
I want to say a massive thank you to TKO, a big thank you to Rio and a big massive thank you to that thief Johnny Eames, just joking I love Johnny. Big massive thanks to all those people coming out to support our boys.”
Tickets for Spencer Fearon’s Hard Knocks Boxing Promotions SHAMROCK SHOWDOWN at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Friday 18th March 2011 are priced £35 on-line at www.tkoboxoffice.com, call: 07960 850645 or in person at The Ultrachem TKO Gym, Gillian House, Stephenson Street, Canning Town, London E16 4SA.

Willie Limond To Headline Graham Earl’s ‘Fists Of Fury’ In Belfast 2nd April
Posted on | March 17, 2011 | No Comments
Former WBU World Lightweight Champion, now turned promoter, Graham Earl has lined up his old friend and training partner Former European Super Featherweight, Commonwealth and World Lightweight Champion Willie Limond to headline his inaugural Irish event ‘Fists of Fury’ at King’s Hall, Belfast on Saturday 2nd April 2011.
This event will be Limond’s first since his unsuccessful challenge against four weight World Champion Erik ‘El Terrible’ Morales, for the vacant WBC Silver Light Welterweight title, in Mexico City back in September.
During his eleven year, thirty six fight, career Glasgow’s Limond has had just three losses, each against top class opposition. Besides his aforementioned recent loss to Morales the only others were against Amir Khan, when they clashed for the Limond’s Commonwealth Lightweight title in March 2008, and ‘Amazing’ Alex Arthur when Limond challenged him for his British Super Featherweight crown July 2003.
Limond is currently in Mexico sparring with former foe Erik Morales, to both help Morales prepare for his 9th April Las Vegas showdown with Argentina’s Marcos Rene Maidana as well as to prepare himself for his Belfast debut on the 2nd April.
Speaking at the Ultrachem TKO Gym in London, where various of his fighters were sparring to prepare for ‘Fists of Fury’, Graham Earl said, “First of all it’s great to be putting on my first show in Belfast on April 2nd, at the King’s Hall. There’s going to be some great support there.
Having Willie on board with us is something else. He’s the top fighter in the camp, with that CV I never expected it. Me and Willie get on well and we’ve trained together when I was boxing. He knows I’m a straight guy and it’s good we’re doing business together.
We are still working on Willie’s opponent. It’s got to be the right fight because we want him to go again next month. Saying that, it will be a good match-up. I’m not a believer of having the odds 70/30 in favour of the home fighter.
His problem is a lack of fights. He’s had one fight a year or two if he’s lucky and he often gets a call, when he hasn’t fought, to go in against an up and coming prospect for Frank Warren. Fighters need to keep busy and two a year is not enough, so we are looking to improve on that.”
I’m really looking forward to April 2nd even more so now having Willie top of the bill.”
Willie Limond, against a yet to be named opponent, will be headlining the Graham Earl promoted ‘Fists of Fury’ event at King’s Hall, Belfast on Saturday 2nd April 2011.
Graham has put together a superb undercard featuring the cream of local talent and includes the long awaited showdown between Tommy Tolan and Phil Townley. Another explosive local needle match sees Damian Taggert finally come face to face with Paddy McGarrity.
Popular Middleweight prospect Joe ‘The Belfast Banger’ Hillerby is set for his home debut, against a yet to be named opponent, as are Ian Boyd and Michael McLaughlin who will be looking to get the first win under their belts in front of a home crowd.
Local lads Sean Montgomery, Paidrag McCrory, Mark Morris and Mark Ginley will all be making their pro debuts on the 2nd April.
Finally Graham will be bringing over his big punching unbeaten Light Welterweight prospect Terry Holmes.
Tickets for the Graham Earl Promoted ‘FISTS OF FURY’ event at the Nugent Hall, King’s Hall, Belfast on Saturday 2nd April 2011 are now on sale and priced £35 (Unreserved), £40 (Outer Ringside) or £50 (Ringside).
For tickets book on-line at www.tkoboxoffice.com or contact local fighters. For further information call TKO Box Office on 07960 850645

Segura expects repeat performance vs. Calderon
Posted on | March 17, 2011 | No Comments
‘La Revancha’ PPV Apr. 2
HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 17, 2011) – WBO and The Ring light flyweight champion Giovani “El Guerrero Azteca” Segura expects nothing less than a winning repeat performance April 2 in his much anticipated rematch against former 108-pound king Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon, headlining the “La Revancha” Pay-Per-View event, live from Auditorio del Estado in Mexicali, Mexico.
“La Revancha: Segura-Calderon 2,” presented by Zanfer Promotions and PR Best Boxing, will be distributed in the United States by Integrated Sports Media for live viewing at 9 PM/ET – 6 PM/PT on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, DISH Network and Avail-TVN, for a suggested retail price of only $39.95.
Segura (26-1-1, 22 KOs), fighting out of Bell, California by way of Mexico, captured the WBO, The Ringand WBA Super light flyweight titles last October, when he knocked-out the previously unbeaten champion Calderon (34-1-1, 6 KOs) in the eighth round in Puerto Rico. Segura was leading (69-64, 68-65, 67-66) on all three judges’ scorecards at the time of the stoppage.
“This time he’s coming off of a loss that I gave him,” Segura said. “And we won’t be fighting in his home, Puerto Rico, where he was used to fighting. I’m hoping he reacts differently fighting in Mexico. The only I real advantage I have fighting in Mexicali is the support of the people, but everything else will be the same for both of us – rules, referee, gloves and ring.
“Calderon’s plan will be to stay away from me. He’ll try running around the ring – that’s the way he fights – but the first moment he feels my punch his running will be behind him and I’ll stop him, hitting up and down. He already knows how hard I punch and he must be worried. He has to stay away to make sure I don’t beat him but I will stop him to win.”
The 28-year-old Segura, who will turn 29 the day before his fight against Calderon, also holds notable victories against Daniel Reyes KO1) and Carlos Tamara (DEC12). Giovanni has fought only once since defeating Calderon, last November in a non-title fight triumph against Manuel Vargas who retired after seven rounds.
“I see this fight going the same as the first one (one of the 2010 Fights of the Year),” added Segura, who has dedicated this fight to his son’s birth in July. “It’s going to be a war except it’ll be harder for Calderon because he knows my punching power. I’m working out in the gym as hard as I can. Another motivation factor for me is facing a Puerto Rican challenger. There’s always a rivalry between Mexican and Puerto Rican fighters. As a Mexican, I want to increase the number of Mexicans defeating Puerto Ricans. I’m been training real hard in Los Angeles, doing the same routine, running in parks, beaches and Mountains – all to beat Calderon! I had a Japanese sparring partner and right now there are three Latinos. We are at a strong time of preparation, almost ready but close enough to slowdown the rhythm.
“I will win. I don’t know how but I will look for a knockout, again in the eighth round. I’m not looking past this fight, but I’ll be looking for a fight against any of the 112-pound world champions. This is my last fight at 108 pounds. I’d like to make my first fight, as soon as possible, against WBO flyweight champion (Julio Cesar) ‘Pingo’ Miranda. I always go directly for what I want and had no doubts of my triumph in Puerto Rico. Nobody can make me doubt my abilities, I am a warrior.”
Prior to fighting Segura Calderon had been the WBO light flyweight champion for more than three years (six successful title defences) and WBO minimum weight titlist (11 successful title defences) from 2003 until he moved up to light flyweight in 2007. Ivan is currently rated No. 1 by The Ring and No. 3 by the WBO.
His boxing resume reads like a Who’s Who list of great 108 and 105 pound world champions and challengers, including victories against the likes of Rodel Mayol, Reyes, Higo Fidel Cazares (twice), Nelson Dieppa, Issac Bustos, Roberto Carlos Leyva, Ednar Cardenas, Alex Sanchez and Eduardo Ray Marquez.
The co-feature matches Mexican featherweight champion and three-time world title challenger, Ricardo“Piola” Castillo (39-9-2, 26 KOs), against former WBC Continental Americas super featherweight titlistJoksan “El Torito” Hernandez (21-3, 14 KOs) in a 10-round bout. Castillo is the younger brother of 2-time world lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

SUPER SIX WORLD BOXING CLASSIC SEMIFINALISTS WEIGH IN ON IBF SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION LUCIAN BUTE AS HE PREPARES TO DEFEND AGAINST BRIAN MAGEE SATURDAY NIGHT ON SHOWTIME®
Posted on | March 17, 2011 | No Comments
Live at 10 p.m. ET/PT, From Bell Centre
Montreal, Canada
NEW YORK (March 17, 2011) – It’s no secret that the last man standing once the final bell sounds ending the SHOWTIME®Super Six World Boxing Classic could very likely be looking at a matchup with one of boxing’s most exciting fighters, Montreal’s immensely popular and undefeated Lucian Bute.
All four of the Super Six Semifinalists have praised Bute (27-0, 22 KOs) for his prowess and winning ways in the ring, which Bute hopes to continue Saturday night when he faces former European titleholder Brian Magee (34-3-1, 24 KOs) of Belfast, Ireland, for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Super Middleweight Championship live on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on SHOWTIME at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast) from Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.
The fight marks Bute’s eagerly anticipated first start since signing a multi-fight agreement with SHOWTIME Sports® when he makes the seventh defense of his 168-pound crown. The telecast will
begin with the rebroadcast of the March 12 action-packed SHOWTIME PPV® main event between World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Welterweight champion Miguel Cotto and Ricardo Mayorga.
Bute said on Tuesday that he hasn’t missed a round of the Super Six fights on SHOWTIME.
“I do follow the Super Six and I know the matchups,” he said. “All four fighters are very good and I have a lot of respect for all four. I find it tough for (Arthur) Abraham to have a solution for (Andre) Ward….Glen Johnson is great boxer and a great person, but in my opinion the final will be Carl Froch vs. Andre Ward. I really can’t say who the winner will be but I think it will be an exciting fight.”
Johnson, who will face Froch in his Semifinal, calls Bute easily one of the best in his division. “Bute is a very good fighter,” he said. “He has a great jab and a good left hand. He has a great body shot that he comes into from the inside – right at the midsection – which is a hard shot to get away for a right hander. He’s very sneaky. I think he is one of the best super middleweights in the world and he has a great future ahead of him.
“He’s someone that I’m looking forward to fighting. I always look forward to fighting top fighters and I believe he is one of those and I look forward to fighting him in the future.”
Froch thinks Saturday’s Bute-Magee matchup will be a good one. “Lucian Bute is a decent fighter that deserves respect,” he said. “He’s a good technical boxer with good ring awareness and decent hand speed. He’s also shown in his last fights that he can dig a bit. Obviously all of the top Super Middleweights are tied up in SHOWTIME’s fantastic Super Six tournament and for Bute, Brian Magee is a step in the right direction towards getting any real credibility from fight fans.”
Abraham also praised Bute for being an elite fighter at the top of the boxing game. “He is a very good boxer,” he said. “He has defeated a lot of strong opponents and he is definitely one of the best super-middleweights in the world. He is fundamentally very sound because of the strong Romanian/Eastern European boxing school. And he has great fan support in Canada. He is a top fighter.”
Ward declined to comment on Bute saying he’s solely focused on his May Semifinal matchup against Abraham.
Saturday night’s event is promoted by InterBox.
Steve Albert will call the action from ringside with Al Bernstein providing color commentary and Jim Gray serving as ringside reporter. David Dinkins Jr. is the executive producer of SHOWTIME Sports with Ray Smaltz producing and Bob Dunphy directing.
