Model, Actress Amy Vitale Inspiration for Upcoming Comic Book Series

Posted on | March 17, 2011 | No Comments

(Miami, FL) – When the new full-color comic book series “Red Angel” debuts later this month, the raven-haired, chiseled beauty that stars in the adventure might have a familiar look about her.

That’s because Victoria Angel, the series heroine, was inspired by fitness model, actress, former wrestling diva and celebrity spokesperson Amy Vitale.

“Red Angel”, a 24-page per issue, full-color comic book series, will make its first splash at MegaCon 2011 on Friday, March 25th and Saturday, March 26th in Orlando.

According to the series synopsis, Victoria Angel is the captain of the Steam & Tesla coil powered airship Red Angel, whose crew is tasked with defending New Britain from ARC rebels after the Machine Wars of the late 19th century.

After capturing an ARC ship, Victoria and her crew discover there may be more to the insurgent Machine attacks than revealed by their employer, the Global Transmospheric Trading Company, the leading company in military technology and defense.

Victoria Angel’s look was modeled after Vitale because the latter’s spirit, beauty and resolve captured the eye of series publisher What The Flux Comics and inspired author Erin Pyne and artist Russ Leach to create an all-new sci-fi comic featuring Vitale’s likeness.

The comic series’ debut issue can be preordered at http://whatthefluxcomics.com. Red Angel #1’s price is $3.75 plus tax and $1.00 shipping and handling.

Tate’s Comics (4566 North University Drive, Lauderhill, Florida 33351) will sell Red Angel #1 as well.

The series’ Facebook Fan Page can be found at http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Red-Angel-Comic-Series/153974617968121.
This isn’t the first time that Amy Vitale and comic books have been married; she’s already appeared in the comic book series “Red Skye” as character Aurora Stone.

BUTE FENDS OFF QUESTIONS OF A POSSIBLE FIGHT WITH MIKKEL KESSLER

“I’LL WORRY ABOUT KESSLER AND ANYBODY ELSE AFTER I WIN THIS FIGHT”

MAGEE PLANS TO CELEBRATE WIN OVER BUTE WITH “A PINT OF GUINNESS”

The Two Super Middleweights Will Battle for Bute’s IBF Title

Live on Saturday, March 12 at 10 p.m. ET from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada

MONTREAL (March 16, 2011) – Unbeaten International Boxing Federation (IBF) Super Middleweight Champion Lucian Bute (27-0, 22 KOs) and 168-pound contender Brian Magee (34-3-1, 24 KOs) showed each other great respect at Wednesday’s press conference from Boutique Videotron in Montreal, Canada leading up to their title bout on Saturday, March 19 on SHOWTIME®at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast) from the Bell Centre in Montreal. The telecast will begin with the rebroadcast of the March 12 action-packed SHOWTIME PPV® fight between World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Welterweight champion Miguel Cotto and Ricardo Mayorga.

Bute, who signed with SHOWTIME in November 2010, is one of the most talented pound-for-pound and popular fighters of this era. He has won all but one of his title defenses by knockout, including four consecutive victories inside the distance.

The 35-year-old Magee has not lost since 2006 and is also riding an impressive streak of four consecutive knockouts.  Magee has won six in a row and nine of 10 since his loss to Carl Froch of the Super Six World Boxing Classic, which returns to SHOWTIME in May.

In front of sea of local television cameras and eager reporters, Bute and Magee promised to do most of their talking inside the ring on Saturday night. Below are some highlights.

Lucian Bute:

“The following I have here in Montreal is very important. They’ve been there from the beginning of my career. I feel great when I have them in my corner and they cheer my name and cheer me on. I want to thank them for being so loyal for so many years. I promise them a good performance Saturday night.

“It’s only the media that talks about [a possible fight with] Kessler, not me. I’m only concentrating on Saturday night, Brian Magee, a good performance and a win. I’ll worry about Kessler and anybody else after I win this fight.

“The fact that Kessler is going to be ringside [on Saturday at the Bell Centre] is not going to affect my performance at all. I have a plan to win this fight. I’ll have a good performance and the fact that he’s ringside really doesn’t matter to me.

“It’s a very big opportunity for me to be on SHOWTIME and I want to thank SHOWTIME for having me on. It’s a big opportunity for me to be seen by boxing fans in the United States.”

Brian Magee:

“I just want to thank everybody in Montreal for giving me such a great welcome. It’s good to be here. It’s good to be fighting. I’m looking forward to the fight. This is a good chance for [me]. [There are] lots of things on the horizon for [me], if I win. Lots of things for Lucian, so it’s a fight both of us have to win.”

On the world title shot…

“It’s massive for a fighter. I’ve worked hard to get here. What a big stage! You couldn’t have a bigger stage than to fight on SHOWTIME. I’m fighting the best in the division.

“Hopefully, I’ll be the new world champion. There’s no doubt about it, it’s going to be a hard fight. I’ll need to have the performance of my life but it’s a good position to be in, fighting for the world title.”

On the pro-Bute crowd of Montreal…

“At the end of the day, there are only two fighters in the ring. I’ve been an away fighter all my life so it doesn’t make a difference. I’m just so used it now, you know, it’s just the way things are.”

On how he plans to celebrate after the fight, should he be victorious…

“A pint of Guinness, of course. I’m looking forward to the Saint Patty’s Day parade in Montreal on Sunday.”

The event is promoted by InterBox.

Steve Albert will call the action from ringside with Al Bernstein providing color commentary and Jim Gray serving as ringside reporter. David Dinkins Jr. is the executive producer of SHOWTIME Sports® with Ray Smaltz producing and Bob Dunphy directing.

Jupp Confident Ahead Of Khan Clash on March 19th

Posted on | March 16, 2011 | No Comments

Unbeaten Featherweight prospect ‘Saint’ George Jupp is set to face Harrow’s Raffi Khan at the Steve Goodwin promoted ‘Essex Eruption’ – sponsored by Fists of Rage new to DVD movie – at Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham, Essex, this coming Saturday.

20 year old Jupp is proving to be something of a sensation on the London scene and is being tipped as a future champion by many local boxing luminaries, especially since his magnificent performance back in December, when he stopped the highly durable Pavels Senkovs.

Those in the know point to the fact that Senkovs had only been stopped once, in thirty fights, previously and that was the result of a cut from an accidental clash of heads.

Jupp’s opponent Raffi Khan has only had one outing to date, when he traveled to Glasgow to face Michael Roberts in October last year. The reports that came back were exceptional with many saying that Khan was unlucky to lose the points decision – by a very close 57-58 margin.

On learning that his opponent on Saturday will be Khan, Jupp said, “I haven’t  seen him and don’t know too much about him. I only know he’s had one fight and lost it.

It was a very close fight up in Scotland with Michael Roberts, who’s a very good fighter. So Khan’s obviously a very capable fighter so it should be a brilliant fight, I’m really looking forward to it.

I know it’s come late in the day but I’ve been training for whoever they could get for me. I’m fit and I’m on my game so it doesn’t matter who they got for me I know I’m ready

I’ve been doing a lot of sparring with Kaash (Akaash Bhatia), I’ve also been sparring a couple of Irish boys from Graham Earl’s camp. I’ve been sparring anyone in the gym really, I’ve been sparring Ricky Boylan so I’ve had really good sparring for it.

I couldn’t have asked for better preparation really so roll on the 19th, it should be a good test and hopefully a good fight for the public.”

‘Saint’ George Jupp versus Raffi Khan will feature on the Steve Goodwin promoted ‘Essex Eruption’ quadruple headlined super show at Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham, Essex on Saturday 19th March 2011.

Co-headlining the ‘Essex Eruption’ event are fellow Ultrachem TKO Gym mates Leon ‘Solid’ Williams against David Vicena and ‘Phat’ Pat McAleese versus Fran Gonzalez as well as Romford Cruiserweight Tony ‘The Conqueror’ Conquest versus Prince George Akrong, which is sponsored by Revolver Entertainment’s new to DVD action drama movie  ‘Fists Of Rage’, and Yassine ‘The Showman’ El Maachi against Ulises David Lopez

The undercard includes a whole host of local talent including two more of Georgie’s TKO team mates, Daniel ‘Hurricane’ Herdman versus Kevin McCauley and ‘Pretty’ Ricky Boylan faces Kristian Laight.

Michael ‘The Zambezi Hitman’ Norgrove will be looking to extend his unbeaten record to five when he faces Czech Republic’s Jan Balog.

Another fighter who will be looking to increase his uneaten record is Biggleswade’s Jamie Boness.

Middleweight Kris Agyei-Dua and Danny Brown will be making their second outing in a Month, after both securing wins on their debuts at York Hall on February 20th.

Further fights are expected to be announced shortly to bring the ‘Essex Eruption’ card to fourteen bouts.

Tickets for ESSEX ERUPTION at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham, Essex on Saturday 19th March 2011 are priced £35 (Unreserved) or £60 (Ringside) and on sale NOW.

For tickets book on-line at www.tkoboxoffice.com, call: 07960 850645 or in person at The Ultrachem TKO Gym, Gillian House, Stephenson Street, Canning Town, London E16 4SA.

Fists Of Rage, distributed by Revolver Entertainment, is new to DVD and will be released nationally on the 28th March 2011 and can be pre-ordered now at Amazon – www.amazon.co.uk – and HMV – www.hmv.com

East-West Showdown comes to the MGM Grand at Foxwoods on April 16 Andre Berto defends the WBC Welterweight Championship vs “Vicious” Victor Ortiz on HBO World Championship Boxing

Posted on | March 16, 2011 | No Comments

NEW YORK, NY (Mar. 16, 2011) – Styles make fights and the compelling April 16 showdown between the lightning-quick World Boxing Council (“WBC”) Welterweight World Champion and undefeated star Andre Berto, from Winter Haven, Florida, and powerful, WBC # 5 rated challenger “Vicious” Victor Ortiz, of Ventura, Calif., will add-up to non-stop action when they square-off in an “East-West Showdown” from the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods on April 16.

“East-West Showdown: Berto vs. Ortiz” is presented by DiBella Entertainment, in association with Golden Boy Promotions. The bout will be televised live on HBO’s World Championship Boxing starting at 9:45 PM/ET 6:45 PM/PT. The broadcast kicks off with Amir “King” Khan (24-1, 17 KOs) defending his WBA Super Lightweight World Title against Paul “Dudley” McCloskey (22-0, 12 KOs) from the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, England.

“There isn’t a more compelling welterweight match-up than Berto vs. Ortiz,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment, the promoter of the show and Berto. “We will pack the undercard with some of the biggest names in boxing from New England and the rest of the world. I couldn’t be happier returning April 16 to one of the premiere venues on the East Coast for another great night of boxing at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods.”

“This is a very risky fight for Victor, but I know he’s going to be ready for Berto on April 16,” said Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions, Ortiz’s promoter. “The best need to fight the best and that’s what we have with Berto vs. Ortiz. I’m really looking forward to seeing these guys face off.”

Berto (27-0, 21 KOs), a 2004 Haitian Olympian fighting out of Winter Haven, Florida, captured the vacant WBC Welterweight World Title in 2008 by way of a seventh round technical knockout of Miguel Angel “Miki” Rodriguez. Berto has made five successful title defenses against World Champions Steve Forbes “2 Pound” (UD12), Luis Collazo (UD12), Juan “Iron Will” Urango (UD12), and Carlos “El Indio” Quintana (TKO8), as well as veteran Freddy “Riel” Hernandez (TKO1) last November.

“This fight is exactly what boxing needs right now,” Berto commented. “Two young fighters in their primes going head-to-head. I’m excited and I know this is going to be a tremendous fight.  I look forward to fighting in the MGM Grand Arena at Foxwoods. I heard it’s a great facility and we plan to pack it out and put on a great show. This is going to be a great fight that no one should miss.”

Ventura, California’s Ortiz (28-2-2, 22 KOs) is hitting his fighting prime at the age of 24. One of the most popular fighters in the game, the hard-punching southpaw holds victories over former World Champions Nate Campbell (UD10), Vivian Harris (KO3) and Carlos Maussa (KO1) as well as high profile opponents such as Antonio Diaz (TKO7), Mike Arnaoutis (TKO2) and Jeffrey Resto (TKO2). The former NABO/USBA title holder has won four of his last five fights, with his last fight against Lamont Peterson ending in a 10-round majority draw on December 11, 2010.

When asked to comment on his upcoming bout with Berto, the usually talkative Ortiz simply said “I’m going to knock him out.”

Tickets are priced at $350, $200, $125, and $65 and went on sale today through the MGM Grand at Foxwoods box office. Tickets can be purchased online at www.mgmatfoxwoods.com, by calling the MGM Grand at Foxwoods at 1-866-646-0609, or in person at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods box office.
