WORLD CHAMPION BEIBUT SHUMENOV STOPS WILLIAM JOPPY IN SIX

SHYMKENT, Kazakhstan (January 8, 2011) – WBA/IBA Light Heavyweight Champion Beibut Shumenov (11-1, 7 KOs) successfully defended his world titles for the second time, stopping 3-time world champion William Joppy in the sixth round, tonight in front of a packed house at the Ice Mansion in Shymkent, Kazakhstan.

Joppy (39-6-2, 30 KOs) replaced WBO titlist Juergen Braehmer, who last Monday night suddenly and unexpectedly pulled out of his scheduled unification showdown against Shumenov, in the main event.

The former Kazakhstan Olympian, now fighting out of Las Vegas, floored Joppy in the fifth round with a powerful right and seconds into the sixth round, he fired a vicious left hook to Joppy’s body that resulted in him taking a knee and being 10-counted out. Shumenov joined fellow world champion Lucian Bute and former superstar Felix Trinidad as the only fighters to ever stop the game, experienced Joppy.

“I’m happy but still want to be the undisputed light heavyweight champion of the world,” Shumenov said after the fight. “That is my goal. I took a little while to get to Joppy because I had prepared four months to fight a southpaw.

“I can go toe-to-toe or move and box. I’m trying to learn everything to be the best, using my power and speed. He’s (head trainer Kevin Barry) the greatest. I listened to my corner. I want to fight the best – the other three world champions. I can’t be considered the best until I’ve beaten the other three champions.”

“Under the circumstances,” Barry noted, “I thought that Beibut’s performance was incredible. It was a fight that I didn’t like because he was fighting a last-minute replacement with a lot of excperience. Mentally and emotionally, I was concerned because he was deflated and he had to get back up in three days. He has a world-class jab. The plan was for him to throw to the body in the first few rounds and then go to the head. Everything worked out well for us.”

The show was presented by Goossen Tutor Promotions and KZ Event Productions, which is owned and operated by the Shumenov brothers, Beibut and Chingis, in Las Vegas.

In the co-feature, Uzbekistan native Ravshan Hudaynazarov (14-0, 12 KOs), rated No. 13 by the WBA, won the WBA FEDALATIN Welterweight title by 10th-round technical knockout due to a deep cut over Jose Luis “Chelin” Cruz’ right eye. A devastating body puncher, the 26-year-old Hudaynazarov dropped Cruz (41-8-2, 33 KOs) with a left hook to the liver late in the opening round, but his Mexican opponent proved to be as tough as advertised. Cruz had fought a draw with Carlos Baldomir and took Shane Mosley the full distance.

On the advice of the ring doctor, the referee stopped the fight in the 10th round, but Hudaynazarov gained invaluable experience having never before fought more than six rounds. He won every round on the three judges’ scorecards through nine in a thoroughly convincing performance.

Former Kazakhstan National Amateur Champion Alexandr Zhuravskiy (11-0, 8 KOs), fighting out of Las Vegas, kept his perfect pro record intact by knocking out Ruben “Modern Day” Galvan in the sixth round to capture the WBA International Super Lightweight Championship. Zhuravskiy methodically broke-down Galvan, who had been stopped only twice in 45 previous fights, flooring him with a left and then immediately jumping on him with a 1-2 combination that ended the fight.

Unbeaten Interim PABA Light Heavyweight Gayrat Shumenov (16-0-1, 10 KOs), rated No. 65 by the WBA, successfully defended that belt and added the WBC International crown to his collection when Tursunboy Absullakimov was unable to answer the bell to start the fifth round.

Hudaynazarov, Zhuravfskiy and Ahmedov are all in the KZ Event Productions stable of fighters.

In the main event, Emelianenko (31-2, 1 NC) will take on Antonio “Big Foot” Silva (15-2) in a STRIKEFORCE and M-1 GLOBAL co-promoted event. The co-feature will pit former world champion Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski (15-8) against Sergei Kharitonov (16-4), the last man to defeat STRIKEFORCE Heavyweight World Champion Alistair “The Demolition Man” Overeem.

The famed Fedor, 34, of Stary Oskol, Russia, will be making his first start since it was announced earlier this week that STRIKEFORCE and M-1 GLOBAL, in association with SHOWTIME®, had signed a new, multi-year agreement to co-promote events headlined by the MMA legend.

In his last fight, the 6-foot Fedor suffered a shocking upset loss to Fabricio Werdum on June 26, 2010. Until then, Fedor had manufactured an unprecedented, record-setting run of 28 consecutive victories, earning him recognition as the world’s all-time greatest pound-for-pound fighter.
Silva is a 6-foot-4, 31-year-old Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt who has won eight of his last night fights. All but two of his victories have come by knockout. Only five of his fights have gone past the first round.

Arlovski, of Minski, Belarus, is one of the most popular and recognizable fighters in the history of MMA. A hard-hitting, extremely athletic 6-feet-4, 31-year-old, he has fought and defeated some of the best since turning professional in April 1999.

A winner in four of his last five fights, the 6-foot-4, 30-year-old Kharitonov is the last man to defeat Overeem. On Sept. 17 2007, he scored a thunderous first-round KO of Overeem with a single punch in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan. Kharitonov is coming off a 1:25, first-round TKO (knee) destruction of Tatsuya Mizuno this past Dec. 31 in Japan.

Undefeated Featherweight Coy Evans headlines plus a Philly Turf war between Tommie “Big Poppa” Speller and Jameel “Black Gold Wilson”

PHILADELPHIA (January 7, 2011)—On Friday night January 28th, 2011 the first boxing event of the New Year will take as Greg Robinson’s Power Productions in association with River Edge Beverage Company presents an action packed card that will be headlined by undefeated Featherweight, “Pretty Boy” Coy Evans taking on grizzled veteran Felipe Almanza in a bout scheduled for eight rounds.

Evans of Philadelphia has a record of 9-0-1 with two knockouts and will be looking to sustain the momentum of a busy 2010 where he recorded four wins which included his first two professional knockouts.

Evans who turned pro in 2004 has stepped up the competition as evidenced by his strong 2009 when he stopped nineteen fight veteran Vinesh Rungea; a decision over thirty-nine; a third round stoppage over twenty-three fight vet Morris Chule and is last fight a six round unanimous decision over thirty-two fight opponent Babrabro Zepeda on June 4th at Philadelphia’s Legendary Blue Horizon.

“2011 is going to be a big transition year for Coy”, said Power Productions CEO Greg Robinson.

“This is a year were we feel that Coy will capture the attention of the networks and begin to step him up in the meaningful fights that will make him a contender in the Featherweight division.”

Almanza has a record of 18-19-4 with nine knockouts and has faced many of the top fighters and world champions in the lower weight divisions.

Almanza of Lorica, Colombia has shared the ring with former world champion Cesar Canchila. He was disqualified in an attempt to win the WBA Fedecaribe Light Flyweight title against Cesar Seda. He has also fought world champions Eric Morel, Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. and Tomas Rojas as well as undefeated contenders Teon Kennedy and Abner Mares
The co-feature will be an eight round Philadelphia turf war between Super Middleweights Tommie “Big Poppa” Speller and Jameel “Black Gold” Wilson.

Speller has a record of 5-5 with three knockouts and will be looking to get back in the win column after dropping his last two bouts.

Speller won his first four bouts before dropping three in a row. Speller than decisioned Dave Cook before the previously mentioned setbacks to Dion Savage (7-0) on the Floyd Mayweather – Shane Mosley undercard in Las Vegas and in his last bout he dropped a unanimous decision to Dennis Hasson (10-0).

Wilson has a record 13-16-3 with eight knockouts and will be looking to end a five bout losing streak for which the fighters had a combined record of 84-12-1.

Wilson was undefeated in his first eleven bouts by going 10-0-1 as he defeated four undefeated fighters.

After a stretch for which Wilson went 2-4-1, Wilson upset Patrick Perez (25-3) at The Legendary Blue Horizon.

That was a high point as since then, Wilson has hot a rough stretch as he faced some very rough competition such as Tarvis Simms (17-0); former world title challenger Antwun Echols (30-5-1); USBA Middleweight champion LaJuan Simon (7-0-1); Elvir Muriqi (34-4) and in his last bout he dropped a eight round unanimous decision to Willie Williams on November 26, 2008.

“This is a throwback fight”, said Robinson.

“Two guys from the same (West Oak Lane) neighborhood and they don’t really care for each other much. This is one of the old school Philly fights where you can throw out the records because to each of these guys, a fight like this is basically their world title fight.”

Tim Witherspoon Jr. (5-1-1, 2 KO’s) takes on Kywame Hill (1-6, 1 KO) in a six round Lightweight bout.

Undefeated Cruiserweight Venroy July (5-0, 2 KO’s) of Suitland, July will compete in a six round bout against Pedro Martinez (5-4, 3 KO’s) of Philadelphia.

Angel Ocasio (3-0, 1 KO) of Philadelphia will take on Bryne Green (5-4, 3 KO’s) in a four round Lightweight bout.

Super Middleweight Rashad Brown (2-0) of Philadelphia will take on Terrell Boggs (0-3) of Philadelphia.

SHUMENOV FIGHTS JOPPY AFTER BRAEHMER “RUNS” OUT OF TOWN

SHYMKENT, Kazakhstan (Jan. 7, 2011) – Despite the unannounced departure from Kazakhstan of WBO champion Juergen Braehmer, WBA/IBA Light Heavyweight Champion Beibut Shumenov decided not to allow the devastating news derail his homecoming as a World Champion when he defends his titles Saturday night against 3-time world champion William Joppy in the 12-round main event at the Ice Mansion in Shymkent, Kazakhstan.

Failing to notify the promoters and his refusal to be examined by the federation doctor in Shymkent, Braehmer returned home to Germany on Tuesday claiming a case of diarrhea prevented him from facing Shumenov in a Unification bout.

Shumenov (10-1, 6 KOs) will now put his titles on the line against 3-time world middleweight champion William Joppy (39-6-2, 30 KOs), who was in Kazakhstan and scheduled to fight Saturday evening against WBA No. 6 and Interim PABA light heavyweight champion Gayrat Ahmedov (15-0-1, 10 KOs).

“I trained too hard for Braehmer and will not disappoint my fans and many dignitaries, including the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, attending this sold-out show,” Shumenov explained. “I’m putting Braehmer in the rear view mirror and intend to get right back on track defending my titles against Joppy, who I applaud for accepting this fight, and focus on collecting the other world light heavyweight titles.”

‘Wildman’ enters MFC jungle

Newly signed exciting veteran Thomas Denny to face Sheldon Westcott at Supremacy

Eclectic and iconic veteran Thomas “Wildman” Denny has signed an exclusive multi-fight deal with the Maximum Fighting Championship and will make his organizational debut at MFC 28: Supremacy.

The alternatively-coiffed Denny (27-18) will step into the spotlight on Friday, Feb. 25 when he matches up against promising prospect Sheldon Westcott (4-1) of Edmonton, Alberta, in a main-card bout featured on HDNet Fights’ live broadcast.

“It’s been 14 months since my last fight, but now that I’m established with my gym and my coaching in Colorado, it was the right time to get back and fight,” said Denny. “To come to the MFC was the right opportunity for me.

“My fighters have gone 31-8 over the last year. Now it’s time for the coach to get back in there and do some winning. I’m always excited to get the chance to punch somebody.”

Denny, who now fights out of Centennial, Colorado, has won five of his last eight encounters, and has career totals of six knockouts and 16 submissions. The California native has been one of the sport’s most colorful ambassadors since the start of his career. Of late, Denny became recognized for a stint on the MTV reality series “Bully Beatdown,” but inside MMA circles he is well-regarded for the vast array of notable names on his fighting resume including clashes with Georges St. Pierre, Nick Diaz, Pat Miletich, Joe Stevenson, John Alessio, Duane Ludwig, and Yves Edwards.

The 39-year-old is eager to meet Westcott in his own home town, something he has frequently done against opposition throughout his career. This time, however, Denny has more than ample time to prepare unlike previous bouts that he’s taken on short notice.

“They all say they want to stand and bang with me but then they get hit twice in the face and they want to go to the ground,” noted Denny. “That’s fine too. I’m not too shabby with my wrestling and submissions so Westcott better be careful. I might just put him in his own game and submit him.”

Denny was called out by the unheralded Westcott and didn’t hesitate in accepting the challenge.

“I think the kid’s bit off more than he can chew,” Denny added.

“I posted on his Facebook page that his dream to fight me has come true. But he should be careful what he wishes for. His dream just might end up being a nightmare.”

The fight with Denny marks Westcott’s return to the MFC organization. He previously earned a first-round submission win over Jeff Kilisolsky at MFC 18, and added a first-round TKO victory over Kyle Millberry in the inaugural Heat XC event. Already sporting a solid ground game, the powerfully built Westcott went to the Netherlands to work on his stand-up skills alongside well-regarded striker Melvin Manhoef.

“This is easily the biggest fight of my career … it’s only thing that matters right now,” said Westcott.

The main card for MFC 28: Supremacy now includes:

Light-heavyweight title – Dwayne Lewis vs. Ryan Jimmo

Lightweight – Kajan Johnson vs. Richie Whitson

Light-heavyweight – Razak Al-Hassan vs. Rodney Wallace
