Grano out to avenge only career loss in “Brace For Impact” headliner March 12 at Foxwoods

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Feb. 15, 2010) – Popular heavyweight prospect Tony “TNT” Grano values avenging his lone pro loss more than money and fame, which is precisely why he desperately wanted a rematch against Mark “Oak Tree” Brown, headlining the March 12th “Brace For Impact” card, presented by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc. (CES), in Fox Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn.

Grano (16-1-1, 13 KOs), a 2005 U.S. National Championships winner and National Golden Gloves Tournament runner-up, has won two in a row since losing to Brown (15-2, 7 KOs), who overcame two knockdowns to stop Grano in the eighth round of their WBF All-Americas title bout Sept. 27, 2008.

Coming off his sensational, nationally-televised knockout of previously-undefeated prospect Travis Kaufman (18-0) last September, Grano had clearly targeted Brown, rather than a top 20 rated opponent, and CES gave him the opportunity for revenge.

“For me, personally,” Grano explained, “I wanted this rematch more than any fight. Ranking-wise, I don’t need it because I’ve already surpassed him (Brown), and my fight on ShoBox (vs. Kaufman) showed everybody it (fight vs. Brown) was a fluke. No excuses, though, I’m not like that. I had a bad night and he had a good night. Negotiations for bigger fights for me were held – (Brian) Minto, (Hasim) Rahman and (Evander) Holyfield – were mentioned. But beating Brown means a lot to me and after I do, I’ll be looking for a fight against a top 10 guy to get me in position, hopefully, for a world title shot.

“Anybody who has watched me knows I put on exciting fights and a lot of people are coming to watch me fight March 12. I’m not going to brawl; I’m going to show my boxing ability and pick him apart. I won’t be looking for a knockout, but if it comes, it comes. I just want to connect and get in some good hits. He’s tough but I don’t see him going the full 10 rounds. It’s going to be a great fight.”

Grano, who was born in Hebron (CT) and fights out of Hartford, will be fighting in his home state for the 15th time, his fourth at Foxwoods.

“It’s great fighting in Connecticut and I love fighting at Foxwoods,” Tony added from training camp in Houston. “I have a huge fan-base that we’re trying to build up even more in the Italian-American market. I expect a large crowd at Foxwoods and I’m looking forward to putting on a great display. I want to get boxing fans excited again.”

Also slated to be in action on “Brace For Impact” are Hartford super bantamweight “Machine” Mike Oliver (22-2, 7 KOs), reigning New England and EBA champion; Marshfield (MA) super middleweight Manuel Antonio Lopes (5-0-1, 1 KO), Long Island (NY) light heavyweight Joe “The Irish Bomber” Smith Jr. (2-0, 2 KOs), 2008 New York Golden Gloves champion; Brooklyn (NY) welterweight Sadam “World Kid” Ali (5-0, 2 KOs), 2008 U.S. Olympian; Hartford middleweight David Bauza (3-0, 3 KOs). BareBonesGear.Com Launch Party And Model Search Post-Event Report

This past Friday night I had the pleasure of attending the Bare Bones Gear clothing company launch party and model search at Game On Sports Bar in Kenmore Square by Fenway Park. Lindsey Skipper and Melissa LaBak took home top honors for both personality and their fabulous looks in Bare Bones Gear. I met many of the sexy ladies and MMA fighters John “Doomsday” Howard and Damien “The Omen” Trites at the event in addition to Michael Beatty, one of the company’s founders.

Howard will be fighting on March 21st in Newark, New Jersey on the first UFC card scheduled to air on the Versus network. He’ll be looking to continue his three-fight win streak in the UFC against formidable opponent Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. Fight News Unlimited interviewed Howard last year. Friday featured Howard and Trites taking advantage of all the photo ops with the beautiful ladies. Both men also served as guest judges for the event along with other special guests like Former Patriots Tight End Christian Fauria.

The incredibly sexy collection of ladies trying to fight for a spot as a Bare Bones Gear model and spokeswoman had all the guys in the house drooling, although few of them were brave enough to show off their legs in the cold temperatures. CageFX Promoter Linda Shields played the part of emcee for much of the event, trying to encourage the girls to “work it” as they passed the judging table. Shields had the whole house whistling and cheering for the parade of lovely ladies who participated.

Blue Hills Brewery was also in the house, and President of Sales Peter Augis was busy allowing patrons to sample some of his Imperial Red India Pale Ale and other Blue Hills Brewery house blends.

Brian Dee was also in the house on behalf of scientificsocialsolutions.com. Dee ran a silent auction at the event on behalf of the CRASH program.

The Master s Boxing Clinic starts this Thursday, February 18th. The clinic continues on Friday and concludes with an exciting Master Boxing Show on Saturday evening.

The weigh in starts at 4:00 PM and the first bout is at 6:00 PM.

Twenty-six masters have signed up for the clinic. We combined these with some local boxers and have matched eighteen (18) bouts.

The Master s is a category of amateur boxing for people 35 and older. They are registered and licensed to compete. USABoxingMetro sanctions the bouts.

The admission price is $20.00

High-tempo card to Rock MFC 24: Heat XC

Joint promotion show features numerous top prospects

For Immediate Release

The Maximum Fighting Championship smashes its way into the 2010 campaign with MFC 24: Heat XC – a special joint promotion show featuring fighters from the MFC and Heat XC, the two organizations under the umbrella of Pavelich Sports Inc.

MFC 24: Heat XC will take place on Friday, February 26 at the River Cree Resort and Casino just outside Edmonton, Alberta, and will be streamed live online at www.maximumfighting.com.

An 11-fight card has been set for MFC 24 with the event headlined by what promises to be a fast-paced lightweight bout between “The Texas Gunslinger” Yves Edwards (36-15-1) and Derrick “The Eraser” Noble (25-12-1). Edwards, who fights out of Woodlands, Texas, is an exciting striker known for finishing his opponents in style, while Noble, who trains in Champlain, Minnesota, will be looking to get back into MFC lightweight title contention following a loss to current champion Antonio McKee at MFC 20.

Two light heavyweight bouts are also featured on main card – the first pitting a pair of proven knockout artists squaring off in what is sure to be a heavy-hitting affair. Tulsa, Oklahoma, native David Heath (14-6), who was part of the MFC’s 2009 Fight of the Year, will look to stop the surging Dwayne Lewis (10-4) of Fort McMurray, Alberta, who is riding a wave of knockout supremacy. Among Heath’s top career wins is a victory over former MFC light heavyweight champ Roger Hollett, while Lewis has won six straight bouts including a stunning first-round knockout of Marvin Eastman at MFC 23.

The other main-card light heavyweight encounter has Chris “The Exorcist” Price (15-3) of Indianapolis, Indiana, taking on Nick “The Quiet Assassin” Penner (9-1) of Edmonton, Alberta. Price is already an accomplished veteran now looking to make his mark in the MFC, but Penner intends on making his first trip to the 205-pound division a successful one following a strong run at heavyweight where he neatly blended his striking and submission skills.

Penner will share the home-town spotlight with middleweight Travis “The Gladiator” Galbraith (17-6) who moves down to the 185-pound ranks for a clash with English invader Tom “Kong” Watson (10-3). Galbraith is back in the MFC fold following a lengthy layoff which came after his controversial split-decision win over David Heath at MFC 21. Watson, who hails from Southampton, England, is making his much-anticipated MFC debut after developing a potent reputation and following in his home country.

The main card is rounded out by a welterweight clash that sees Nathan “Gunner” Gunn (7-1) of Thunder Bay, Ontario, meeting Thiago Goncalves (11-3) of Vancouver, B.C. Gunn will be out for redemption following his knockout loss to Pete Spratt at MFC 22, while Goncalves, who is a frequent training partner of fellow Brazilian Anderson Silva, is also aiming to bounce back after a tough decision loss to Corey MacDonald at Heat XC 3.

Six fights under the Heat XC brand will be the focus of an undercard of up-and-coming prospects. The undercard bouts are:

David Letourneau vs. Nick Hrynchyshyn, welterweight

Talented Youth Wrestlers from the many great Western States of California, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, Arizona, Washington, New Mexico and Colorado will be traveling to the Holy Land of Wrestling, the tournament of all tournaments the Mecca. “CAGWA Super Tournament TWO…” Age Group Wrestlers from as far off as Maryland and Massachusetts will be seen packing their bags and making the trek pledging their commitment to go to Battle on the Mat. CAGWA Tournaments are rites of Passage where ambitious adolescent Wrestlers from the age of K to 8th grades can individually respond to the challenge of a tournament which truly turns Boys 2 Men. Youthful wrestlers will have the opportunity to compete for sole Prized Super Tournament Championship Belt which is only offered and branded at a Top notch Tournament like CAGWA.

Unbeaten featherweight Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard Targets Major Bout

MANCHESTER, Conn. (Feb. 12, 2010) – WBC rated No. 10 featherweight contender, unbeaten NABF champion Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard, is getting closer and closer to a major fight.

In his last bout (Jan. 29), Remillard destroyed Rafael “The Dominican Man” Lora (11-2, 5 KOs) for the second time in a row, defending for the first time the NABF belt he won September 19 by way of a fourth-round technical knockout. Lora’s team complained that the original fight was unjustly halted, but they soon discovered that sometimes you should watch out for what you wish.

At Mohegan Sun in the rematch, Remillard unleashed pure, unadulterated fury on and all over Lora, who was unable to answer the bell for the fourth round. Rumors after the fight circulated that Lora broke two or three ribs and possibly suffered a fractured jaw.

“I just wanted to get the fight over with and move on with my career,” the 23-year-old Remillard explained. “They petitioned the NABF after our first fight. We gave them a rematch because we didn’t want anything hurting us. It was nice to have my first title defense at home, too. I was able to showcase some of the things we had been working on.”

Now the WBC’s No. 1 ranked American featherweight, Remillard is almost there in terms of his ultimate goal of fighting for a world title. “A big fight is right around the corner,” Matt remarked. “It’s starting to hit me and came on fast. My team has done a great job getting me here. My division is full of talented fighters. I’d like to fight anybody in the top 15, top 10. There are a lot of good fights out there for me and a few of us are trying to get from prospect to contender.”

WBA featherweight champion Elio “The Kid” Rojas (21-1, 13 KOs) defends his belt Feb. 20 in Mexico against No. 3 rated Guty Spades, Jr. (45-7, 28 KOs), while No. 1 contender Israel “Magnifico” Vazquez (44-4, 32 KOs) faces rival Rafael Marquez for the fourth time May 22 in Los Angeles. The other top rated WBC featherweight contenders are, in order, No. 2 Juan Carlos “Miniburgos” Burgos (24-0, 17 KOs), No. 4 Jhonny Gonzalez (42-7, 30 KOs), No. 5 Cholatarn O. Piriyapinyo (33-0, 19 KOs), No. 6 “Doctor” Oleg Yefimovych (17-1, 1 KOs), No. 7 Rafael “Chocho” Guzman (24-1, 17 KOs), No. 8 Justin “Le Malin” Savi (23-0, 15 KOs), No. 9 Cyril Thomas (36-3-4, 10 KOs), and No. 10 Remillard.

“Maybe a fight against another unbeaten prospect is next,” Remillard offered. “We’re all waiting in line along with a few guys who have one loss. Whatever my promoter and manager want to do is good by me. One way of moving up the list, though, is to takeout each other. Last year at this time, I remember thinking about being where we are right now. One great fight for me can lead to a TV network picking up a world title fight. That’s what I’m aiming for.”

WEST WILL TRAVEL TO DENMARK TO CHALLENGE ANITA CHRISTENSEN

Moreno Valley, CA ~ February 12, 2010

At just 22 years of age, female bantamweight sensation K “Wild Wild” West will be fighting for her first world title; making it a dream come true for the young fighter out of Moreno Valley, California. West (11-1-1, 2 KO’s) will be making the long trip to Denmark to challenge four-time former world champion Anita Christensen (24-1-0 KO’s) for the vacant WBO world bantamweight title on March 25, 2010.

Since West was a little girl hanging around her father in the gym, in addition to having an outstanding amateur career and making her pro debut in early 2006, this is what she has been diligently training for; a shot at a world title. Coming off a draw against two-time world champion Ada Velez in January, West is eager to make the trip to Europe and claim her first world championship.

This will be a tough task for her as Anita Christensen is truly a remarkable fighter who West has followed and definitely respects. It has been a little over a year and a half since Christensen has been in the ring, however, that will not deter West from training hard. West will head to Denmark hoping to win over the fans and give them a good show. Her father, trainer and manager Juan West has kept Kaliesha humble and in great shape, ensuring she doesn’t take her opponent lightly.

Although this is West’s fourteenth professional fight, she is ranked fifth among world active bantamweights and first among active bantamweights in the United States, Canada and Mexico according to boxrec.com. During her career, West has fought the likes of Suzzanah Warner, Ava Knight, Rolanda Andrews and Ada Velez.

Catching up with Kay on her thoughts of her first world title fight, she noted that, “this fight will be just one of many chapters I plan to make in the sport of boxing. I’m ready for the opportunity to fight for the world title and GOD knows how bad I want that title!”

Her trainer and manager Juan West also noted that, “I remember heartbreak the day I lost my first top gun fighter and K told me to bank on her, I did and we’re on our way to fight for a world title. I can’t describe how proud I am of K and how ready she will be come March 25th.”
